Cheryl, an experienced artist and instructor, teaches a variety of
workshops in her home studio in Arroyo Grande, California, ranging in
subject from traditional bookbinding and etching to unique soldered
jewelry and altered books.
Open to any level enthusiast, these small classes (6 maximum) offer an
intimate learning experience and encouraging creative environment.

Students at recent Jewelry Workshop

Soldered Reliquaries   
$65.00 one day workshop or 6 hours
Create small three-dimensional reliquaries (shrines) by building a box around
a paper whimsy that you stamp, paint, collage...whatever! Using the
instructor's supplies of glass, metals for taping and soldering, found objects,
charms, handmade papers, etc., you'll learn to construct a box of board and
glass, cut glass, create a wonderful momento of a treasured person, event,
whatever! You'll also learn to cut decorative edging with copper tape, solder
the box together, and add charms. In addition to attentive instruction, you
will receive an equipment and supply list and how-to handout.

Traditional Bookbinding
$85.00 -- all materials included; two-day workshop or 10 hours

Learn traditional hard cover bookbinding--just like the Medieval monks used to
do it!  Make journals or books for dropping in images, text, whatever!
Cut, group, and sew pages, create covers with fabric, add decorative endpapers,
and bind your spine. Papers, fabrics, tools... all materials are supplied, plus a
detailed, illustrated 'how-to' handout, with glossary, bibliography, and where to
buy supplies.

Altered Books
$55.00 -- all materials included; one day workshop or 6 hours
Calligraphy Basics  
$60.00 --
all materials included (workshop)
three evening workshop or 9 hours

Learn basic calligraphic techniques, such as pen angle, letter stroke and various
scripts, a bit of history on the alphabet. Ultimately, you'll design a card using
decorative initial letters and watercolors. Dip pen, ink, paper, and paint provided.
In addition to attentive instruction, you will receive a supply list and how-to
handout.

Collage and Glass Soldered Jewelry   
$65.00 -- all materials included
one-day workshop or 6 hours
Create beautiful double-sided  soldered glass jewelry. Using the instructor's supplies,
(or use your own images, photos, etc.) you'll learn from A-Z how to make your own
wearable art. You'll learn to cut decorative edging with copper tape, cut glass, solder
edges, add jump rings and charms. In addition to attentive instruction, you will receive
an equipment and supply list and how-to handout.

REFUND POLICY: Cancellations made 5 days before the class will be refunded in full. A cancellation made less than 5 days prior to the class, receives a 1/2
refund.

Students at recent Bookbinding Workshop
Open to any level enthusiast. In this workshop learn how
to alter recycled  books  and morph them into a work of
art! We'll use paint, collage, sewing,
found objects, etc. and learn to create pockets,  doors,
collage, and other unique book designs. The instructor
will supply tools, books to alter, papers, gesso, paint,
transparencies, found objects,  etc! Your ultimate
result can be a theme book, journal, scrapbook, learning
tool, visual playground, or l'objet d'art!  In addition to
attentive instruction, you will receive a supply list and
how-to handout.

Basic apothecary
$25.00 -- all materials included; 2 hours; 2 days
Learn basics of apothecary techniques; herbs used for different ailments, how they
have been treated from the Middle Ages until now, and methods for application or
ingestion. Learn how to make decoctions, infusions, salves, oils, and tinctures with
appropriate type of herb. Some growing here at my studio; all others USDA approved
as organic. I'm just learning this art, so there will be sharing and researching.

Mosaic light switch or plug covers w/glass & millefiori
$55.00 -- all materials included; two-day workshop or 6 hours

Create a cover plate in the traditional mosaic technique incorporating millefiore
pieces, an ancient Italian (Murano) patterned glass. A usable art piece for your home!.
Learn to cut glass, and mosaic with mastic and grout. We'll layout a design first, then
attach and grout. Glasses, millefiore, odds and ends to incorporate, tools... all
materials are supplied, plus a detailed, illustrated 'how-to' handout, with glossary,
bibliography, and where to buy supplies.
